    "Committed" can be taken in two contexts here.  Heather Graham ("Boogie
Nights") should be committed for stalking her husband or she should be
commended for committing herself to finding him.  Either way, the woman has
tenacity and ingenuity in what she does.  Director/writer Lisa Kreuger
("Manny and Lo") shows us what happens when one person falls out of a
relationship and the other person doesn't.  Luke Wilson is Heather's husband
who decides he wants out of their marriage---fast. This critic attended a
screening of this film in which two critics walked out.  I stayed. 
"Committed" caught my eye and brain.

    "Committed" begins in the East with Heather and Luke happily married. 
She is so in love, she has her ring actually tattooed in her finger.  Heather
believes marriage is forever…and ever…and ever.  After two years, Luke
decides it isn't for him, so using the excuse "time to think things out," he
leaves without telling anyone where he's going.  Heather is more than
distraught.  She becomes downright detective-savvy and using just plain gut
instinct and luck, manages to track Luke to El Paso, Texas.  What a surprise
he gets when she shows up.  Not only that, but Heather finds his new
girlfriend and stakes a claim on the property across the street from his
trailer house.  She is willing to camp out in the desert to get this guy
back.  To add spice to the story, enter Heather's brother (Casey Affleck) who
doesn't have his act together, but manages to get himself involved with a
girl right away.  What a situation for the neighbors to figure out.

    The storyline is improbable, but the acting is on target and photography
well done. Graham looks innocent, but underneath the soft exterior is the
heart of a warrior.  She does meet with a native medicine man (Mexican
director Alfonso Arau) and finds a friend on another plane of existence. The
scenery of the Southwest is presented in pristine colors.  Luke's new
girlfriend, Patricia Velaquez, has an open heart and doesn't know what to do
in this odd situation.  Casey Affleck is the brother no one wants.  The weak
link in the cast is Luke Wilson, so doesn't do indecision well.  In fact, he
fades into the background so much you wonder what Heather saw in him in the
first place.

    "Committed," offers another look at marriage and what makes it tick. 
When one partner is 90 percent there and the other only about 10 percent,
will things work in the end or not?  Sometimes opposites attract and stick
and other times, they don't.  The first half of the film is slow paced, which
may cause theatergoers to lose interest in the story.  Just how many times
can you watch Heather get in and out of her car?   
   
    Be aware of profanity, comic violence and sexual scenes.
